Feb 2018 – Lup Global

Big News!

People talked, we listened. Introducing: Lup Global!

We received a lot of feedback from members and networks that ‘Social Entrepreneurs Network’ was causing a bit of confusion for people. After a lot of testing, we are very excited to introduce Lup Global! A small play on words, Lup (pronounced Loop) succinctly represents the closed-loop, global circular economy we are trying to achieve. www.senetwork.co is being retired and will redirect everyone to our new website: www.lupglobal.com. Similarly, our emails have been updated to info@www.lupglobal.com.

Australia Post Revamp Network

We’re really looking forward to being a part of Australia’s Posts Revamp Network and attending our first quarterly meeting with them on Feb 21st. More details will come in the following months, but Australia Post has already been doing some fantastic work around the circular economies and have published an excellent white paper.

Collaborating with CIPS UK

We had a very productive meeting with CIPS UK in London. Having already established a great relationship with CIPS in Australia, we’re working hard to collaborate further with CIPS as they expand their offices to the US, and how we can work together to help promote and improve global corporate sustainability.

New Listings: Non-perishable food items and essential supplies

We currently have two listings for supply needs: Community Support Frankstonand FareShare (two of our founding members). They both need non-perishable food items and cooking / food preparation supplies, with CSF also seeking essential (life) supplies. If you are located in Australia and are able to help supply any of the required goods listed for these amazing not-for-profits, can connect them with others in your own network, or have any spare capacity that could go into assisting with the deliveries, storage and logistics for these charities, please get in touch with us at info@www.lupglobal.com.

Active Listings: Wooden Skids & Timber Dunnage

We still have two similar listings: 1) Wooden skids and 2) Timber dunnage used to secure imports available from Melbourne. We have reached out to a number of companies including pallet recyclers, a cubby house company, a landscaping company, and a veggie patch company, however we need to connect with more groups as this is a big environmental issue for Australia. Solution may be the use of recycled plastic pallets. In our recent discussions with Veolia HQ in Paris, they shared with us trends showing an increase in the use and production of recycled plastic pallets. This is an exciting generational change that we are seeing, that will ultimately provide the world with a better solution than wooden pallets, as plastic pallets can be recycled again at the end of their lifecycle.

China Recycling Ban on Imported Waste

With the recent ban from China on dealing with foreign waste, it becomes increasingly important that countries such as Australia focus on developing greater methods of both reducing and dealing with their own waste.

Jan 2018 – Happy New Year

Jan 2018 – Happy New Year

Happy new year!

Wishing everyone a safe & happy holiday season! We’re so excited about the New Year and what it may bring!

Local sustainability around the world

In our recent travels around the world, we visited the Cu Chi tunnels in Vietnam, where we came across a great example of local sustainability at play. During the Vietnam War, local villagers would re-purpose used car tires into footwear worn by the soldiers. Today, that practice continues.

Know anyone in the UK?

We’ll be in London UK from the 10th Jan through to the 10th Feb so if you know anyone we should meet with while there, please get in touch via info@senetwork.co. We’re looking forward to meeting with the CIPS head office in the UK to look at how we can encourage global sustainability practices across procurement functions.

Our first listing!

Meanwhile, we currently have a listing in Australia for some custom wooden pallets. Located in Lilydale, Victoria, these custom designed wooden skids to allow safe handling of copper rods. The shape is unique in its design to suits the application and could only be re-used of we returned the skids to the overseas suppliers, which is not economical. These are defect-free, and there is a consistent supply of approximately 300 to 400 a month that is currently going to waste. SEN has already contacted three different companies we thought may be able to re-purposes these skids: A group that creates hanging veggie gardens out of old skids A landscaping company; and A company that makes cubby houses for kids However if you can make use of these, or know of someone who can, please reach out to us.

On the topic of skids…

Every year hundreds of thousands of crates and pallets containing goods and components from all over the world are imported into Australia. Much of this packaging ends up in landfill, and it is estimated that over 500,000 tonnes of timber waste is disposed of each year in Victoria – enough to fill the MCG one and a half times. With this knowledge, who do you know that can utilise these crates and pallets? Or do you have an idea for how to re-utilise this continuous supply? Get in touch and let’s see if we can close this loop. Then register it here. As we mentioned on our launch night, we may not be able to find a recipient or a supplier it straight away, but as our network grows, invariably the connections will come. Having your listings registered means we’re always on the look out to bring the right people in! You can get in touch with both Noreen and Scott via info@www.lupglobal.com. Dec 2017 – Welcome To Our Launch

Dec 2017 – Welcome To Our Launch

Welcome to the Social Entrepreneurs Network!

What a terrific launch night! Thank you to everyone who braved the heat and came along to share in our vision and be inspired by the great work from our amazing guest speakers:

As founding members…

You are now all part of our growing network of social entrepreneurs who will make a difference in achieving global sustainability.

But what next?

1) Check out our website: www.senetwork.co and start thinking about what spare capacity or reusable waste your organisation might produce (as outputs), or what supply requirements you need (as inputs)
2) Introduce us to people around the world (in particular Australia, UK, or US) you think we should connect with
3) Tell people to join our network! Here is a flyer, if you wanted to pass on a 1-pager.

As our network grows, so too will the connections we can build in order to start creating those closed loop supply chains.

What can you expect from SEN?

We are at the start of our journey, meaning we are keeping things lean. We’ll keep you abreast of developments, new waste / capacity / supply listings, and other opportunities through this monthly newsletter.

You can get in touch with both Noreen and Scott via info@lupglobal.com.

Be sure to follow us on FacebookTwitter, and LinkedIn.

You can also connect directly with Scott Ko here.
